Underrepresentation in CS

In order to address the issue of underrepresentation we must first become aware of three things:

  • the stereotypes/myths and truths associated with CS and its stakeholders,
  • identifying underrepresented groups in your school and classroom in the CS program and why,
  • and finally what positive and negative biases/beliefs you may have about the populations you serve.

Now, let’s see how we could use specific classroom, school, district and state data to identify who your underrepresented populations might be and the implications for their lack of participation.

What are some resources that you use to guide your instruction and or classroom climates?
