CS community members and others joined a roundtable discussion of culturally responsive teaching on hosted by CS for All Teachers community ambassador, Omar Shepherd.
If we want more women, girls, persons of color, and those identifying as LGBTQ in STEM and computer science, it’s about more than simply providing access. It’s about providing support to learners in accessing their true intellective capacity through building interconnectedness and community in the classroom.
Inspired by Zaretta Hammond’s book, Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain, this session explored the three levels of culture and the implications of incorporating the Ready for Rigor Framework into lesson planning. Participants engaged in a series of activities, including a cultural affinity mapping activity modeled through the Frayer lens.
