A Computer Science Honors Society (CSHS) chapter at your high school is a great way to increase enrollment in computer science (CS) classes while developing a student’s personal growth. A CSHS student gives back to their community while supporting CS education and promoting diversity. Community members and others joined CS for All Teachers Community Ambassador Brenda Burmeister for a webinar to learn about successful recruitment strategies from Catherine Wyman, a veteran CSHS sponsor. The webinar also featured a student discussing their transformative experience being part of CSHS.
Catherine Wyman is a CS teacher at Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona and her CSHS chapter currently has 133 members. Her chapter has created a successful middle school CS mentoring program and hosted Girls Have IT Day 2020, an event to engage, empower, and excite middle school girls in STEAM.
